K-pop bands record highest-ever sales in Japan

 

K-pop artists recorded their highest sales ever in Japan last year, according to Japan's Oricon music chart.

According to Oricon's report, Korean musicians marked 24.47 billion yen (RM922 million) worth of sales last year in Japan's soft music market comprised of singles, albums, music DVDs and music Blu-ray discs.

This is an increase of 22.3 per cent from the previous year.

K-pop artists have been seeing an increase in sales since 2008 although Japan's overall sales have fallen for five consecutive years.

Girls' Generation's self-titled album, which sold 642,000 copies last year, earned 2.96 billion yen worth in sales.

About 451,000 of KARA's Super Girl were sold, marking 2.08 billion yen in sales. Both made it into the Oricon's Top 10 albums of the year.
